CANINE INFLUENZA

has NOT yet been detected in California, but be on the look-out for these symptoms:

  • A moist, productive cough that ends in a gagging response.
  • It looks like Kennel Cough but persists despite treatment.
  • Some dogs develop a thick, yellow discharge from nose.
  • Very few dogs will spike a high fever, between 105 to 107 degrees Fahrenheit and become lethargic and weak, with rapid, shallow breathing, which may progress into pneumonia.
  • It is highly contagious, with the uninfected picking it up from the infected via dog-to-dog encounters, shared items or human contact (kennel workers have carried the virus home with them).

Dogs displaying ANY of these symptoms are NOT PERMITTED in Elk Grove Dog Parks.

We all need to take a role in educating others. If you see any dogs displaying these symptoms at Elk Dog Parks, please respectfully explain the concern to the dog's owner & direct them to this sign.

Dogs displaying ANY of these symptoms should be seen by a Veterinarian IMMEDIATELY.
